Both OPGW and ADSS put optical fibres on a transmission tower, but they occupy different positions and serve different project situations. • ADSS — an all-dielectric (no metal) self-supporting cable lashed to the tower below the live conductors. Because it carries no current, it can often be installed on a live line.

Can ADSS carry ground current?
No. ADSS is all-dielectric and carries no current; it provides communications only. OPGW additionally serves as the earth/shield wire.
Is OPGW better than ADSS?
