Welded Wire Mesh Size Chart & Specifications Guide

Welded wire mesh (also called weldmesh or jali) is a grid of steel wires resistance-welded at every intersection, producing rigid panels and rolls used in reinforcement, fencing, gabions and industrial screening. The right specification depends on three numbers — wire diameter, aperture (mesh opening) and roll size. This chart sets out the manufacturing range produced by Systematic Ltd and the standards each product conforms to.

Raw material grades: Mild Steel wire, Galvanized (GI) wire, Stainless Steel wire and High-Carbon wire. Standards: IS 1566, IS 432 (Part II)/1982/2002, BS 4482/1969 and BS 4483/1969. How to read the specification

• Wire diameter drives strength and weight. 2.0–3.0 mm suits plaster reinforcement and light screening; 4.0–8.0 mm suits structural reinforcement, security panels and gabions.
• Aperture (25–200 mm) controls what the mesh contains or filters: small apertures for fine screening and safety guarding, large apertures for reinforcement and stone-fill gabions.
• Roll width (900–2,700 mm) determines panel coverage and offcut wastage on site.

Reinforcement mesh designation

For concrete and pavement reinforcement, welded mesh is specified by area designation. The standard “252 mesh” denotes a square mesh providing 252 mm²/m of longitudinal wire area, supplied in 4.8 m × 24 m fabric sheets to IS 1566 / IS 432 — increasingly used in place of hand-tied TMT bars for slabs and road pavements.

Packaging

Rolls are supplied in stretch-film/plastic wrapping or HDPE sheet; sheets are stretch-film wrapped and mounted on wooden pallets for transit protection.
